Our Mission

The Averill Park Education Foundation (APEF) is a non-profit organization founded in 2001 by a group of parents during a period of challenging school district budget constraints. Established as a 501c3, APEF seeks tax-deductible donations from individuals, corporations, and foundations to support cultural, creative, and innovative educational projects not funded by the District’s taxpayer-based budget. The initiatives funded by APEF expand and enhance curriculum and programs that benefit and enrich the lives of students, teachers, and the greater Averill Park community.

About the foundation

We are proud of APEF’s strong history founded on the need to deliver an outstanding educational experience and are committed to an exciting and promising future.

The funding we provide creates rich, diverse, and innovative programs. From purchasing Musical Licensing fees to restart the High School Musical program, and supporting the e-Sports team at the Middle School to funding an elementary school service dog. We swing open the doors of learning to the wide world beyond the classroom.

We encourage teachers to channel their interests and expertise into initiatives they can shape and share with their students and the school district. Both the grant application process and applying for professional development funding are easy and accessible.

As an educational non-profit, we are constantly learning and growing alongside our students and teachers. We embrace change and creativity and welcome new members interested in donating their time and resources toward ensuring that the Averill Park Education Foundation continues to fulfill its important and impactful mission.

How We Work

The APEF encourages teachers, students, and community members to identify quality projects for funding opportunities. Funds are distributed in the form of grants focused on, but not limited to academic subject areas, socio-emotional learning, technology, and cultural enrichment.  We also fund teacher development and award annual student scholarships.

As an all-volunteer organization, we are always seeking enthusiastic, creative, and supportive members and donors.  Our ability to thrive and grow depends on community involvement and a commitment to providing an exceptional educational experience for all students. We welcome and appreciate time, talent, and financial contributions. Contact one of our trustees today to find out how you can help ensure a strong future for APEF.

Creative And Educator Enrichment Grants

Creative Grant applications are submitted twice-yearly (December 15th and April 15th) and reviewed promptly. Creative Grant applications are available here.

To learn more about the types of projects we have funded in the past, take a look at our Grants Page.  We are open to new ideas and invite interested applicants to contact us to discuss potential projects.

Educator Enrichment Grants are available to support professional development. Grants are available for all APCSD teachers.  Grants are to be submitted by April 1st for continuing education to be completed by August 30th of the following year. Educator Enrichment Grants Applications available here.

Scholarships

APEF awards annual scholarships to deserving students. Over the years, we have given over $15,000 to deserving graduating seniors. Recognizing and supporting individual students as they embark on the next phase in their lives is an important part of our mission.

The Averill Park Education Foundation exists solely for charitable and educational purposes. The Foundation works closely with the Averill Park Central School District but does not receive funding from the District’s Annual School Budget.

“Thanks to APEF for the continued support! I see the impact each day in this building, and I promise it's substantial!”
